About Us

Commuter Connection PA is dedicated to reducing auto-oriented commuting.  Greater usage of feet, bicycles and public transportation for daily commuting can improve health, energy, productivity, mood and air quality.  We work to educate commuters about these transportation alternatives, and strive to provide them with the tools, resources and support they need to switch to a more sustainable daily commute.

Program Synopsis

Clean Air Council is a member- supported, non-profit environmental organization dedicated to protecting everyone’s right to breathe clean air. The Council works through public education, community advocacy, and government oversight to ensure enforcement of environmental laws. Commuter Connection PA is a new Clean Air Council program funded by the William Penn Foundation working to increase walking, bicycle and multi-modal commuting in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

Commuter Connection works by partnering with businesses to educate employees about these transit alternatives and their benefits through on-site, online and social media campaigns.  Through Commuter Connection, employees are connected to print and digital media  resources resources that include specially designed local and regional maps, guides on everything from bike locks to bus stops, tips on how to simplify and streamline their commute, as well as regular updates via blogs and social media. These resources are then combined with outreach and education campaigns that aid in the set up, implementation and evaluation of a multi-modal transit program.

Commuter Connection is provided as a free service to businesses in Southwest Philadelphia and Norristown.  Businesses need only be willing to provide time for meeting with employees during initial outreach and will need to elect a point person to facilitate communication between employees and staff.  Benefits of partnering  with Commuter Connection include:
